Have you ever wondered why people run away from death? Have you ever wondered why people resist death? Have you ever wondered why people don't want to die? Have you ever wondered why people don't want their loved ones not to go (no matter how old)?

Why people are scared of death

Many times in many years, I have always thought about why people are scared of death. Why can’t we let go? We’ve probably heard a lot about where we go after death, but it seems like it never settles within. We are always fighting death and trying to go against the norm.

Well, I happened to stumble on the reason, or maybe some reasons why people don’t want to die. Number 3 is mind-blowing, but follow each sequentially, or you’d spoil the fun 😜

1. Uncertainty:

People are not really certain of what holds after death. Many people have heard tales of afterlife, reincarnation, heaven, paradise, and a whole lot, but it just seems like it won’t even register.
Imagine now faced with death. How do you expect them to react? 'I know of earth, i know how it works, but after here... i have no idea. I’d rather stay in my comfort zone than go where I’m not even sure exists.'
Fear of uncertainty makes people fear death.

2. Unfinished business:

Some other group of people or even the same group of people would rather prefer not to die, because they have work that is not yet done. Many of these people have lived a life of purpose, passion, or something invigorating that it becomes their driving force.

Death comes knocking and some people answer. When people feel like they haven’t lived up to their potential - or they have not fulfilled purpose, or they have not settled some things, or the have debts to pay, or they have responsibilities and obligations to fulfill, or they haven’t met their goals and aspirations, or any other thing - and death comes knocking, they freak out. Death doesn’t terrify this group so much, but it still had some grip on them. Issalie, their scared too.

This drives me to the main reason why people don’t want to die...

3. It’s the way we were created

The Bible says 'He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.'
(Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)

That is to say that when God created us, he gave us the mind of eternity, which is why we long to live forever. We all have that inborn instinct that longs for immortality. You were made to last forever!

But sadly, even with this mentality, we still die. However, you need to know that you can live forever. You don’t need to die. You just have to change your perspective. Death is not really the end, it’s a passage. Embrace it.

I’d love to go on and on about why you should not be scared of death - especially because you were wired to live forever - but that will be a discussion for another day.
